I have to confess a guilty pleasure: I’m a sucker for cool guitar straps. I was actually able to locate a hard-to-find item online (a chrome-finished humbucker pickup) that I couldn’t find in any music store, which was the perfect finish to my Strat customization.

There is one thing that you should only buy in person, however, and that’s your guitar. Whether you’re searching for $5,000 luthier’s masterpieces or run-of-the-mill cheap electric guitars, you should never buy any instrument you haven’t played yourself. You need to make sure your new guitar feels and sounds just right before you take the plunge.
